If your MRCOOL multi-zone system is showing a cooling imbalance—where one air handler doesn't cool, or one cools too much while the other stops—it’s likely due to a wiring issue between zones. Here’s how you can resolve it.
Identify the Issue
Cooling imbalance typically occurs when air handlers are wired incorrectly, with the zones (A, B, etc.) connected to the wrong ports. This causes inconsistent cooling.
Steps to Fix the Issue
- Turn Off the System: For safety, turn off the system and disconnect the power at the disconnect.
- Locate and Trace the Wires: Identify the correct ports on your condenser (A, B, etc.), and trace the wires to each corresponding air handler.
- Swap the Wires: Swap the wires between mixed-up ports. For example, if wire 'A' is connected to 'B', switch them back to their correct ports.
- Check Connections: Ensure all connections are secure and insulated to prevent electrical issues.
- Power On and Test: Reconnect the power and test each air handler individually, then together to confirm both are cooling properly.
Safety Reminder
Before working on electrical connections, always turn off the power to avoid any risk of electrical shock.
