🔧 Resyncing the Remote – Wall-Mounted Air Handlers Only
If a customer reports that their remote isn’t working, one of the first troubleshooting steps is to resync the remote. Note: These instructions apply only to wall-mounted air handlers—they will not work with cassette units.
âś… Steps to Resync the Remote:
-
-
Turn off the unit at the breaker.
-
Remove the batteries from the remote.
-
Wait for 10 minutes.
-
Manually turn the unit back on using the Auto Cool button (found under the front cover).
-
Once the unit powers back on and displays the temperature, reinsert the batteries into the remote.
-
Use your smartphone camera and point it at the top of the remote, about a half-inch away. Press any button.
📸 If you see a small flash of light in your camera, that means the remote is sending a signal. -
Point the remote at the air handler and press the up or down arrow to sync it back with the unit.

đź’ˇ Remote & System Tips:
-
If a customer notices warm air coming from a unit that's off, it may be due to refrigerant “bleed over”. Since mini-split systems share the same refrigerant loop, heated refrigerant can travel between zones—even when a zone is powered off.
-
MRCOOL mini splits use a built-in temperature sensor with a fixed 3–4° offset from the set temperature to help manage room size differences.
-
That offset, combined with refrigerant bleed, could explain a 5–7° variance in room temperature.
-
To minimize this, recommend using Follow Me mode on the remote.
-
The MRCOOL app also includes a Comfy Mode, which allows the user to fine-tune temperature triggers for better control over when the unit turns on or off.
