If you notice water leaking from your indoor air handler, itโs usually due to one of the following common issues:
1. The Unit Is Not Level
For proper drainage, the air handler must be installed level. If it's tilted, condensation may pool inside the unit and eventually leak out instead of draining properly.
2. Insufficient Clearance
The unit needs adequate clearance around it to ensure unrestricted airflow and proper drainage. If it's too close to walls, ceilings, or other objects, condensation may not be able to flow correctly through the drain system.
3. Improper Drain Line Slope
The condensation drain line must have a consistent downward slope. If itโs running uphill at any point, water can back up and leak from the unit.
4. Clogged Drain Line
Over time, dirt, mold, or algae can clog the drain line, preventing condensation from draining away. This will eventually cause water to overflow and leak from the air handler.
โ Quick Fix Tips:
-
Use a level to check the unit's installation.
-
Ensure at least the recommended clearance (typically a few inches) on all sides.
-
Check the drain line for proper slope and clear any blockages with a wet/dry vacuum or drain cleaner approved for HVAC use.
