King Valves are included on some MRCOOL DIY multi-zone systems, but not all systems feature them. Here’s what you need to know:
DIY Units with King Valves:
-
All 3rd generation multi-zone systems will have King Valves. These two valves, located above the line set connections, must be opened before starting the system for the first time.
-
Some 4th and 5th generation multi-zone systems: If you have a Multi-3 or higher (e.g., Multi-4, Multi-5) 4th generation system, or a Multi-4 or higher (e.g., Multi-5, Multi-6) 5th generation system, your unit will include King Valves. These two valves must be opened before starting the system.
DIY Units without King Valves:
-
-
Multi-2 4th generation and Multi-3 5th generation units (such as DIY-MULTI2-18HP230C or DIY-MULTI3-18HP230D-O) do not have King Valves. These systems are designed without them. For installation, you will only need to open the 4 service valves for the connected lines.
-
Single-zone systems will never have King Valves, regardless of the generation.
-
Be sure to check your specific model to ensure you're following the correct installation steps for your system.
