What’s a Drain Pan and Why It Matters in Your Mini-Split System 💧❄️
Tucked inside your indoor air handler, the drain pan (also called a condensate pan) plays a quiet but crucial role. As your mini-split cools the air, warm air passes over the chilly evaporator coils—and that temperature change creates water droplets called condensate. The drain pan catches this moisture, keeping it from dripping into your space and causing damage.
-
🌡️ Purpose:
To collect condensate during the cooling process and keep your floors and walls dry. -
📍 Location:
Inside the indoor air handler, right under the evaporator coils.
To access the drain pan, you’ll first need to remove the front cover of the Air Handler. Follow the step-by-step instructions in this article:

A working drain pan and line are vital to prevent leaks, protect your home, and maintain indoor air quality. -
🧼 Maintenance Tip:
Regularly check and clean the pan and drain line to avoid clogs, overflows, or unexpected water damage.
